Science Center

Would you like to see a Science Center in Rockville Maryland? I would and that has been a goal for the last 27 years for a group of local activists who have organized and run Science Day in April every year. This year there were over 80 exhibits, many provided by companies and organizations along the 270 high tech corridor.

What can you do?

Join the Rockville Science Center on the internet.

Sign  a petition at Animal Exchange.

Lobby – Rockville City Council,  Montgomery County Council, Montgomery County Board of Education, Montgomery County Executive Leggitt. Tell them why Science should be available to us and especially our youngsters all year round, not just on Science Day. We live in an area rich with Scientists and Innovators, their companies and government agencies. They are anxious to share with us. Let’s say YES now.

November is about the stars

Filed under: Science Cafes,Store News — admin @ 4:30 pm

Can you navigate 2500 miles in the ocean using just the stars? The Polynesians did and our Science Cafe speaker last month Doug Herman showed us how they made their canoes and went exploring the world. This month Nov 17, he will be explaining how they knew their way, with no other navigational equipment other than the stars. Dr Herman is a dynamic speaker and will probably convince you that you can do it too.

December will be a visit with an island full of alcoholic monkeys. What a practical choice for the holiday season. Januaries’ Cafe will include a very exciting announcement so put January 19 on your calendar right now. This is such a science rich environment we live in and the Rockville Science Center Science Cafes have been opening the windows of research monthly for the last 7 years.

Every third Tuesday is our schedule . You can always call the store at 301-424-PETS to find out what the next topic will be and join us for the free program.

Our 3rd Tuesday Science Cafes have been a huge success ever since we started them 4+ years ago. Now there is a second opportunity at the Universities at Shady Grove. Their first one was April 17 and what a joy it was to be in a room packed with the next generation of  brilliant, inquisitive minds that will be solving many of the diseases and biological challenges we face today. There are fliers are on the front counter at Animal Exchange and we hope they will continue to provide many more stimulating events. May 1, 2013 is the next Cafe.
